Narrator Holter Graham transports listeners to a world of gods, demons, and humans. As a young demon, Simi is bound to the Atlantan god, Acheron. When Simi meets the demon Thorn, he makes her laugh even though he's trying to scare her, but over the years Thorn becomes enraged at various times. Simi has a childlike nature, which Graham brings out with a singsong quality. As the years advance, Graham ages his voice to match Simi's growth. Graham adds a guttural tone to his portrayal of Thorn, and when Simi and Acheron get into battles, Graham ramps up the tension. Since the story takes place over thousands of years, there are multiple characters in Simi and Thorn's lives, and Graham deftly handles them all.
