To understand the life of the Zbigniew Brzezinski, one must understand the history of Poland--and not just 20th-century Poland. This idea is a major thesis of this extensive and authoritative biography of the Carter Administration's national security advisor, whose worldview and approach to communism ultimately led to the downfall of the Soviet Union. Michael David Axtell offers an easy-on-the-ears narration of this sometimes complex and detailed work. His pace allows listeners to follow the material easily. He adds just the right tone to some of Brzezinski's sarcastic comments. The author regularly uses only last names in second reference--even chapters later. Some listeners might have difficulty remembering who's who. The latter part of the work comparing Henry Kissinger and Brzezinski is especially revealing.
