MANSION BEACH

The title suggests the quintessential summer listen, and it doesn't disappoint. Jaime Lamchick delivers a strong performance of this audiobook, confidently telling the story of Nicola, Juliana, David, and Taylor. She captures nuances in conversations well, and the way she uses shifts in tone to add personality is quite effective. Inspired by the Fitzgerald classic THE GREAT GATSBY, the story explores timeless themes of love and class, adding a twist of mystery and social commentary. Supporting cast members do well with the true-crime podcast aspect of the audiobook, even if that element seems extraneous at times. One needn't know Fitzgerald's novel to enjoy this audiobook, but it's fun to recognize the parallels. Rich in detail and intrigue, MANSION BEACH is ideal for any beach--or hammock.
