January LaVoy draws the listener into the story of Sloan Cooper, a natural resources police officer. Sloan has returned home to recuperate after having been shot. At the same time, Nash Littlefield and his brother, Theo, have moved to Heron's Rest to start a contracting business. While recovering, Sloan becomes interested in missing persons cases. It turns out the missing have been murdered, and LaVoy captures the killer's fanaticism and the victims' terror. LaVoy expertly portrays the Littlefield brothers, giving Nash a reserved tone while portraying Theo as relaxed and easygoing. LaVoy embodies Sloan's strength as she recovers by adding depth to her narration. Nash and Sloan develop a relationship, and LaVoy aptly portrays their playful banter. Golden Voice LaVoy gives the listener a thoroughly enjoyable experience. S.B. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2025]
