KEYBOARD CONVERSATIONS The Power and Passion of Beethoven

by | Read by Jeffrey Siegel

Contemporary Culture • 1 hr. • Unabridged • © 2006

The subtitle of "Concert With Commentary" by pianist Siegel is perhaps a bit too hopeful, given the length and content of the program. Siegel discusses and performs three piano standards plucked from Beethoven's oeuvre: "Für Elise," "Rage Over a Lost Penny," and the "Moonlight Sonata." Siegel's playing is fun--his renderings are clear, fresh, and soulful--and his commentary is articulate and spiced with a handful of illuminating details about the composer and the works. If you're a Beethoven lover in general or a particular fan of these three pieces, this program is an enjoyable way to pass an hour. But an hour will hold only so much power and passion.
