Mona Glass sees herself as her own woman--in sole control of her life. In 1970s New York City, Mona is involved with a married man. The two stage a fake wedding to appease Mona's traditional parents, and the narrative that follows recounts Mona's life story after that. Golden Voice Cassandra Campbell's voice is nimble and adept as she unfurls the various events and characters. Some moments are wonderfully crafted; others languish, or an element fails to ring true when delivered aloud. Dialogue, too, can be a challenge despite Campbell's confident steering. Campbell is fine; the audiobook itself is just okay. L.B.F. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: JUNE 2025]
