Alexandra Dowling provides a contemporary no-nonsense voice for Annie, who is determined to understand the victim's puzzling last message and how it relates to the suspicious death of her own great-aunt. Flashback chapters that take place during Aunt Frances's teenage years are neatly narrated by Jessica Hayles. The time shifts are interwoven with a multitude of details that are sometimes a challenge to follow. The listening experience might have been better served by narrators with more dissimilar voices.
