Lucy and her warmhearted mother, a waitress, never lived with Hank as a family, and Lucy has never met her half-sister, Vivian, or Vivian's haughty mother. When Vivian arrives, she hears that her father has died. A privileged New Yorker, Vivian is unnerved to learn of Lucy's existence.
