SOMEONE LIKE ME An Anthology of Non-Fiction by Autistic Writers

by | Read by Kira Fixx, Scott Turner Schofield, Vera Tan, Sean Patrick Hopkins, Subhadra Newtown, Elaine Wang, Sanya Simmons

Contemporary Culture • 8.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2025

To push back against the stereotype that all people on the autism spectrum are cisgender white men, editors Clem Bastow and Jo Case have brought together 25 women and gender-diverse autistic writers. They delve into their lived experiences, which include finding passions, recovering from eating disorders, experimenting with sexual expression, and exploring gender identity. An ensemble of narrators performs the essays, giving each one a unique feel and voice. Occasionally, however, the accent of the narrator doesn't match the nationality of the writer, creating some confusing moments and jarring listeners out of being fully immersed in the anthology. Nonetheless, the narrators add emotional depth as they deliver the authors' stories. K.D.W. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2025]
