Nneka Okoye's spirited performance brings out all of the humor, drama, and sentiment that overtakes Marchfield Square when a thoroughly disliked tenant is murdered in Number 10. The landlord, an elderly heiress, has no faith in the police, so she employs two of her tenants--Audrey, her cleaner, who knows everyone in the Square, and Lewis, a reclusive, struggling crime novelist--to discover whodunit. The cast is large and diverse, and Okoye distinguishes them from one another with subtle changes in pitch and pacing, as well as distinct accents. Listeners are treated to the full array of the narrator's gifts in this well-characterized cozy mystery debut. The ending hints that we may hear more from Audrey and Lewis--and, we hope, Okoye.
