George Guidall evokes resentment and obsession in this queer thriller, set on the isolated Turkish island Büyükada. Fehmi and ener have spent 40 years in love. Yet despite having an intimate group of friends, the men have hidden their marriage, living as "retired companions" with bitterness bubbling under the surface. When Deniz and his family move in next door for the summer, Fehmi becomes instantly enchanted. He watches the boy day and night--until ener discovers his secret. Anger turns to violence, and suddenly both men's secrets are about to be exposed. Guidall's textured rasp for Fehmi adds angst to the story and contrasts with his higher-pitched voice for ener. This thriller is a bomb just waiting to go off, and Guidall deftly delivers the spark. A.A.H. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: DECEMBER 2025]
