Narrator Matthew Lloyd-Davies takes on the first installment of this series featuring a somewhat OCD barrister who becomes involved in a copyright case and a murder investigation. In a story based on true events in the Inner Temple of the Inns of Court (UK) in 1901, Ward stumbles upon the dead body of the Lord Chief Justice of England. Pompous magistrates and judges team up with the local police and Scotland Yard to investigate the murder. Ward's investigation revolves around the identity of a children's book author who writes under pseudonym. Lloyd-Davies uses a rather off-putting snooty-edged voice for all the characters. He dampens the tension through his detached performance and gives no indication of plot shifts. M.B.K. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2025]
