Narrator Edoardo Ballerini portrays Rhys Kinnick, a heartbroken retired environmental journalist and grandfather who tries to save his family. Ballerini delivers scenes playing out all over the country in which family members on opposite sides of the political fence argue and end up estranged due to disinformation and political manipulation. Kinnick cuts himself off from the world for seven years until he must step up to save his grandchildren from a violent militia. Ballerini adds empathy to his narration, especially when voicing the bewildered children. Kinnick enlists a private investigator to help sort through the mess, and the two seniors uncover more than they bargained for as characters who, at first, seem to be villains elicit listeners' sympathy and understanding.
