AN AXE FOR THE FROZEN SEA Conversations with Poets About What Matters Most

by | Read by Ben Palpant

Contemporary Culture • 6.25 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2024

The majority of the poets Ben Palpant interviewed for this book write mostly overtly Christian poetry, and all of them are people of faith whose work is shaped by that to a greater or lesser degree. In this audiobook, Palpant delivers both sides of the interviews, as well as a poem by each interviewee. He doesn't try to replicate their voices, but there is never any doubt about whose words are whose. The poets best known to the general listener are probably Li-Young Lee, Marilyn Nelson, Dana Gioia, and Maurice Manning, but all 17 have interesting things to say about how they approach poetry and its craft, as well as about how their Christian faith is expressed through it.
