DESI ARNAZ The Man Who Invented Television

by | Read by Todd S. Purdum

Biography & Memoir • 9.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2025

Journalist Todd S. Purdum narrates his absorbing, well-researched, and beautifully delivered examination of actor, producer, and musician Desi Arnaz--also known as comedienne Lucille Ball's husband in the sitcom "I Love Lucy" (1951-1957) and in real life. This enjoyable performance is pure perfection--well enunciated, paced for understanding, and delivered in an entertainingly serious style. Purdum had the cooperation of Lucy and Desi's children, including access to their father's archives. Listeners familiar with the earlier autobiographies, A BOOK by Arnaz and LOVE, LUCY by Ball, may feel this is territory already thoroughly explored. Though that may be true, don't miss the opportunity to enjoy this synthesis, which adds some appealing detail. Purdum asks us to appreciate how much impact the legendary pioneer Arnaz had on early television. W.A.G. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2025]
