Narrator Clare Corbett brings struggling author Jane Hepburn to life as she attends a crime fiction festival in northern England. When Jane's covert plan to promote her own books results in her finding the murdered body of her much-reviled agent, she and a group of newfound friends set out to investigate. Corbett's strong characterizations create likable characters, and she effectively uses various accents to differentiate them. Her portrayal of Jane is particularly strong, capturing the writer's increasing confidence as the investigation progresses, relationships develop, and she puts her troubled past behind her. Corbett's excellent pacing ensures that red herrings and twists keep the listener guessing. K.J.P. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2025]
