BERGDORF BLONDES

Welcome to the world of the PAPs--Park Avenue Princesses--wealthy fashionistas in search of the perfect accessory: a PH (Prospective Husband). Our narrator, referred to only as "moi," is a British expatriot whose friendship with a genuine Bergdorf and glamorous job as a fashion writer give her sufficient cachet for clique membership. Voiced by Charlotte Parry, the protagonist is a comic gem--empty-headed, big-hearted, and looking for love. Parry's got that dry British way with American accents, so the supporting characters--the "13-day blondes" and the protagonist's first PH, especially--are done well, too. The novel itself is a little dated (by references to the late Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and to "Brad and Jen," most notably), but this recording makes that excusable.
