These two loosely entwined novellas are set in Japan. The first, SEESAW MONSTER, is set against the backdrop of the booming 1980s. Former Special Agent Miyako must form an alliance with her mother-in-law, whom she hates and suspects is a murderer, to rescue her kidnapped husband. Pun Bandhu's narration excels at characterization; he makes the two female protagonists highly believable. In SPIN MONSTER, set in the near future, Andrew Kishino's well-done narration builds tension as courier Mito navigates a world in which secure data is kept on paper. His path crosses that of the now 90-year-old Miyako, who still retains her formidable special agent skills. Kishino creates authentic and compelling characters. The combination of two equally strong narrators helps differentiate the two works. K.J.P. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: NOVEMBER 2025]
