A young history professor at a private college, Daphne Ouverture, becomes entangled in the murder investigation of a fellow faculty member when pictures of her are found on the victim's phone. Jasmin Walker's enjoyable narration portrays Daphne's lighthearted approach to the challenges she faces as a young woman of color in academia. The story becomes tense when Daphne is attacked, apparently because someone believes she has incriminating evidence. Daphne leans on her trusted circle of friends, delightfully voiced by Walker, her tough but loving dad (formerly CIA), and a handsome bookstore owner as she probes for answers. This cheerful whodunit is an excellent example of a novel best consumed by ear. N.M.C. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2025]
