Narrators Joshua Quinn and Christopher Hampton portray two Black teenagers in this queer romance novel. After his best friend unexpectedly leaves for the summer, hopeless romantic Kai, portrayed by Joshua Quinn, attends a sold-out concert by himself. Christopher Hampton's character, Elias, who has been sent to spend the summer with his uncle, decides to attend the same concert alone. A blackout ends the concert early, and both boys embark on a quest to unlock the make-up concert's secret location. Because the narrators don't use a similar voice for each character, including the two protagonists, it's occasionally tricky to identify who's speaking. On the plus side, the narrators excel at depicting the messy, complicated emotions of burgeoning feelings mixed with family and friend drama.
