Narrated by Angela Ness, Buchanan's debut features Fiona, an environmental influencer who is mourning the loss of her partner, Ed, who was killed by police during a climate change protest. When a plant begins to talk to her, she is convinced that Ed has been reincarnated. Meanwhile, London is experiencing an unprecedented drought with an imminent storm surge predicted to destroy the city. Fiona isn't sure she can overcome her grief and join a climate activist group to continue Ed's mission. Ness captures Fiona's mental state with her careful enunciation and sometimes stilted delivery. Her voice is flat throughout the first half of the audiobook, but by the midpoint, Ness's steady Scottish lilt takes on an urgent tone as the situation turns dire.
