Maisey narrates with clarity and enthusiasm, enjoying and enlivening the character-driven plot. Her nuanced portraits of Ali and her team, and ability to illuminate personalities and Victorian class differences, deepen the story's nuances. Fingers crossed for a sequel from Griffiths and Maisey.
