Dating the hot, butch manager of a bookstore starts off as a mere publicity stunt, but when she falls in love and realizes she hates the project she's auditioning for, she begins to question her agent's career plan for her. Wilson's earnest and slightly sultry tone, mixed with her professional acting skills, make her a phenomenal queer romance narrator. Her acting experience even elevates the novel's run-of-the-mill writing. Trans characters are portrayed realistically, emotions are clear without being hysterical, and people sound realistic.
