This rhyming picture book from the Questioneers series introduces Billie Jean Peet, a second-grader and middle child sandwiched between musically gifted siblings. Their father is equally talented. Narrator Jorjeana Marie begins the story in a singsong, saccharine tone indicating the carefree attitude and lack of self-awareness common to many small children. However, when Billie Jean becomes aware of her lack of talent, Marie's tone reflects the child's undeserved disappointment in herself. Happily, her sense of inadequacy ends when she discovers her own athletic skill. Marie captures Billie Jean's newfound joy--and the amusing squeakiness of her basketball sneakers--at the audiobook's close. Despite the story's occasional clunky rhyme scheme, Marie maintains a good flow. L.T. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: OCTOBER 2025]
