Jesse Vilinsky narrates an episodic urban fantasy with strong elements of a police procedural. Over the course of a year, Detective Beth Fahey interacts with both the humans of Penwych and the Arcane of Wyrd. In doing so, she also learns more about herself and her mysterious past. Central to the island of Wyrd is the maxim: "Words have power; intentions matter." Vilinsky distinctly voices the numerous characters whose stories illustrate the maxim. While the geographic setting is never specified, Vilinsky gives the cops and other working-class humans New England accents. The Arcane (or fae) have Irish accents. Despite Vilinsky's skill, it can be difficult to keep track of the many characters and their stories. K.M.P. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: DECEMBER 2025]
