The conductor of the City of Glasgow Orchestra is murdered. DCI Lorimer, hero of several popular crime novels, and profiler Solomon Brightman investigate. They uncover sexual manipulations, decadence, massive egos, and the cut-throat internal politics that typically plague the performing arts. It will come as no surprise to learn that the late conductor was not very nice. Narrator Joe Dunlop is adept at the Scottish and international accents proliferating among the musician-suspects. He possesses a pleasant reading voice. However, he reads a bit listlessly so that, while his interpretation is serviceable, his rendering of the text bores and irritates. The listener will want to force feed him strong coffee. Y.R. © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine [Published: DEC 06/ JAN 07]
