Gordon Griffin has a perfect voice and style for this broody police procedural with almost too much of a plot. Retired Inspector Frank Elder, whose family life blew up when his daughter was raped, is called to help with a case of the rape and murder of a police detective whom he once knew and cared about. Meanwhile, a rogue London cop is running a criminal ring, and Frank's daughter, living with a druggy boyfriend, is in trouble in the north, and the lines all start to connect. Griffin's reading is accomplished but dispassionate, and he could give more auditory warning (a pause? a change of tone or pressure?) when he jumps from one plot line to the next.
