The gravitas of narrators Dan Chaon, John Pirhalla, and Stephanie Németh-Parker works well with this novel's well-balanced use of description and early-20th-century dialogue. Fleeing their psychopathic uncle, twins with telepathic powers run away and join the circus. There, they find a haven among its unique denizens. But their happiness is threatened when Uncle Charlie sets off to find them. Stephanie Németh-Parker's delivery of the childlike murmurings of circus performer Rosalie invites listeners' empathy. Author Chaon does an amazing job portraying Uncle Charlie, giving him a consistently gruff timbre and an animated tone. All three narrators bring believable voices to this story of pursuit.
