In 1970s New Hampshire, 17-year-old Coleman Cooper, relatably voiced by narrator David Bryant, is receiving mental health treatment at yet another institution. He follows his therapist's advice to get some work, but when a hospital executive is murdered at a gala where Coleman is serving, he's accused of the crime and must investigate to clear himself. Emma Brace portrays Haley Blossom, a charming British journalist temporarily in New Hampshire, who offers quotes from her book on local murders. The chatty staff of the local tavern add humor to the bleak setting. The narrators' wonderful performances enable listeners to easily follow the audiobook's alternating perspectives. Bryant ensures that Coleman, who occasionally addresses listeners directly, is one of the best characters in recent fiction. S.G.B. © AudioFile 2025, Portland, Maine [Published: NOVEMBER 2025]
