MORGAN'S LANDING

Eric Priessman presents this mystery, set in Maryland. After 14-year-old Julie Morgan and her twin sister, Heather, have an argument, Julie heads to school alone. When she never arrives, Jim Brady, a 12-year veteran police officer and longtime resident of Morgan's Landing, is called into action. His dedication and kindness are movingly rendered. Priessman is at his best when Brady, who knows many locals, evaluates several possible suspects: a pedophile, a fired school janitor, and an attractive new teacher who's mentioned in Julie's diary. Seemingly inconsequential events are tied together, including Brady's conflicted home life and his wife's suspicions about their son's involvement.
