POETRY FOR THE WINTER SEASON

Readers Sandra Douglas Weir and David Pepper are joined by winners of the Voice of the Year poetry competition. No matter who is reading or what is being read, the delivery is uniformly professional. What's more, it always fits both the overall tone of the collection and the specific focus of the winter-themed poems included here. The pace is often leisurely, and the selections range across several centuries and cultures. That said, despite the diversity and despite the relief provided by the humorous pieces included, this anthology is a bit austere. Too many of the poems accent the chill, bleak, and ritual aspects of winter, and too few the more active joys available both inside and out.
