In the 1920s Phryne Fisher goes from Melbourne, Australia, to London to crack a cocaine-smuggling ring. There she encounters prostitutes, a hilarious feminist doctor from Scotland, and gorgeous Russian dancer Sasha de Lisse. Narrator Stephanie Daniel expertly portrays this array of characters, as well as that of Lydia, whose babyish voice contrasts with her evil intentions. With her expert accents and delivery of various emotions, Daniel’s appealing voice is perfect for every situation. She deftly captures Phryne’s modern approach to life and her pluckiness as she disguises herself to foil the drug trade. This delightful period piece is sure to entertain. S.G.B.
