ANTONIO S AND THE MYSTERY OF THEODORE GUZMAN

The old mansion where Antonio lives holds secrets, but it's no school for wizards; and the mysterious presence in one of the apartments is not an ogre, but a quiet old man, who is seldom seen or heard. Antonio's imagination stirs when he learns that the recluse was a famous stage actor, and he feels compelled to win the old man's attention and approval. This thoughtful, almost rambling story, with its focus on character, is a wonderful oddity among current middle-grade novels--indeed, its Australian author has hardly been noticed. Perhaps this audio version, beautifully performed by Catherine Milte, will help it find its American audience.
