ANTONIO S AND THE MYSTERY OF THEODORE GUZMAN

by | Read by Catherine Milte

Young Adult • 4 hrs. • Unabridged • © 1997

The old mansion where Antonio lives holds secrets, but it's no school for wizards; and the mysterious presence in one of the apartments is not an ogre, but a quiet old man, who is seldom seen or heard. Antonio's imagination stirs when he learns that the recluse was a famous stage actor, and he feels compelled to win the old man's attention and approval. This thoughtful, almost rambling story, with its focus on character, is a wonderful oddity among current middle-grade novels--indeed, its Australian author has hardly been noticed. Perhaps this audio version, beautifully performed by Catherine Milte, will help it find its American audience. This is best for the "bookish" child, or one who is drawn to writing, theater, history or poetry. S.P. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/JUL 00]
