Jarrett has given this novel about redemption and reconciliation a decidedly Christian world view. Sharon Washington has a keen ear for the voices of contemporary African-Americans. But the major failing of this production is that the story takes place in Louisiana--New Orleans to be exact--and there is nary a hint of an appropriate accent. An audiobook should echo, or surpass, what the listener's cerebral ear interprets as the narrative voice. Here the narrator presents New York while the novel itself calls for "N'Awlins."
