In this cheerful romp set during King George IV's reign in late-eighteenth-century England, we meet Major Mearns and Sergeant Denny, who organize security at Windsor Castle. One day, the legs of one of Major Mearns's friends are delivered in a large sack. As other body parts begin to pile up, the men set out to discover who murdered their friend. Their task is complicated by the unpredictable whims of a volatile king. Michael Barnes clearly enjoys the proceedings and offers clever characterizations of the English and Scots inhabitants of the castle. His narration is well paced and has a pleasant rumble. All in all, a delightful few hours. A.C.S. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB/ MAR 08]
