Young listeners will prick up their ears at these four animal stories read by Meg Ryan and Holly Hunter. Ryan's "Red Riding Hood" features symphonic background music and a surprise around every corner. Her "Goldilocks" is less even. She uses a Southern accent and occasionally overacts, but the jazzy music keeps the pace moving. Hunter presents a retelling of "The Three Little Pigs." Her knowing voice is a good accompaniment to the wise pig's devious plans. "Three Billy Goats Gruff" finishes off this story collection with a traditional retelling. The high voice of the littlest goat is a charming contrast to that of the gruff troll. Listeners who like stories matched with rich musical accompaniment will want to take this home.
