As caboose Katy clicks along the tracks, bringing up the rear of a large and noisy freight train, she gazes longingly at her stationary surroundings. If only she could stay put in a country town or on a hillside and enjoy the fresh air and solitude. If only there could be no more scary tunnels, mountainside ledges, or smoke-filled train yards. Narrator Josefina Bosch keeps a steady beat, mimicking the train's travel and highlighting Bill Peet's signature rhymes. She projects Katy's longings and rejoices in her big surprise.
