Authors who have genuinely fascinating stories to tell usually don't have to describe them as such in their subtitles. Nor do many audiobooks begin with a pitch to visit the author's Web site. Nor should authors become narrators if they have a whispery, paper-thin voice that makes you want to clear your own throat in hopes the narrator might do the same. Charles Hodgson breaks all the rules in his book on the history of the English language.
