Written in 1942, Henry and Dana Lee Thomas's work presents an entertaining glimpse into the lives and accomplishments of over a dozen women spanning a millennium of achievement. S. Patricia Bailey reads these essays with flourish, clearly enjoying her subjects, although at times she comes across like a headmistress. Equally unnerving are the incomplete biographies of women such as Helen Keller and Madame Chiang Kai-shek, both of whom were still alive when the book was originally published. These points aside, the book is a great listen, offering short chapters perfect for errands around town. H.L.S. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/JUL 00]
