Inspired by the fictional book in the film SEX AND THE CITY, this is a collection of private letters from some of the most influential and prolific artists, statesmen, kings, and poets of Western history, from Pliny the Younger to Mozart to the letters sent by soldiers of war who never came home. Anton Lesser narrates with energy and sensitivity to the text, shifting his delivery to match the tone of each letter. In Daniel Webster's letter to his love, Josephine, in which he admonishes her forgotten bonnet for not giving up the secrets it must surely know, Lesser's narration is quick, coy, and engaging. In Oscar Wilde's letter to Lord Alfred Douglas during Wilde's trial for "gross indecency," Lesser is dark, passionate, and deadly serious. A great collection with a great narrator.
