MISS RUMPHIUS AND ISLAND BOY

A perfect pairing of the two picture books that Cooney claims are closest to her heart. One is the story of a woman who makes the world more beautiful by planting lupine seeds. The other is a touching story of island life from a bygone era. Tracy Lord's clear, light voice is well suited to these moving tales. She portrays the enthusiasm and innocence of the youngsters with sensitivity and control. With the older characters, she captures a Maine dialect without overdoing it.
