From 1930-1936 and 1939-1950, Sherlock Holmes was a popular radio series distinguished by high ratings and first-class writing. Basil Rathbone played the character from 1939-45, and when he left, Tom Conway took over with a portrayal indistinguishable from Rathbone’s. Several audio publishers have issued packaged episodes from the series. All are immensely enjoyable. The Brilliance tapes feature a faint, audible hiss, but the listener quickly overlooks it in favor of the excellent dramatization. The Brilliance also features add-on narration by actors from the radio era, some of whom appeared in the episodes themselves. D.W. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: AUG 96]
