To let an author read her own work is risky, but here it pays off. The text is so intimate and heartfelt that no one but the author would do, and Barbara Bush is a fine narrator. The tape starts on a high note with a bit of self-deprecating humor before a live audience, and it rises from there. Mrs. Bush describes her youth in adequate detail and then the world of George Bush and politics with strength and gusto. She describes tragedy, failure and success with kindness, warmth and good humor, making this a light but appealing autobiography. D.W. ©AudioFile, Portland, Maine [Published: MAR 95]
