THE MUSHROOM MAN & ROSEBUD AND RED FLANNEL

Both determinedly old-fashioned stories are about friendship. The Mushroom Man finds companionship with a mole, and Red Flannel, the red pajamas, wins the heart of the self-absorbed, lace-trimmed nightgown who hangs beside him on the clothesline. Although these stories aren't paired with their picture books, they easily could be; however, Tracy Lord expresses the vibrant images through her narration. Lord's pace and voice clarity are superb. The background music is particularly well-selected. It's a fine introduction to audiobooks as the narration doesn't play down to the audience, but draws them in with high standards.
