THE WOMAN IN THE WING

by | Read by Sparky Roberts

Mystery & Suspense • 7 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2009

In this suspense novel, set on an airbase during WWII, WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilot) trainee Charlotte Mercer finds herself transferred to a defense plant where she must assist the FBI in uncovering a ring of German spies. Narrator Sparky Roberts ably voices both male and female characters, and she excels in delivering scenes of high emotion. It’s a treat to listen to her portray one young woman's dizzy excitement at being accepted as a pilot, and another woman's sobbing dejection at being denied her silver wings. Such moments help to lighten a novel that sometimes reads like nonfiction in its attempts to describe the frequently poor treatment of women pilots during the war.
