Elmore Leonard's many fans will enjoy this second appearance of Chili Palmer, the Miami loan shark who became a Hollywood producer in GET SHORTY. In this novel Chili plans a movie about a music promoter, witnesses a shooting and tries to stay ahead of the hoods. Packed with movie quotes and industry satire, this dialogue-driven book features a gallery of intriguing creeps and hustlers. Ron McLarty's heavy, hard-edged voice personifies them adeptly. Though the package copy doesn't mention it, tape six features two enjoyable supplements: "Odessa," a song by the Stone Coyotes (the group whose music inspired Leonard in planning the novel) and 25 minutes of background commentary by Leonard about the development of his writing style, realism in his fiction and the gestation of BE COOL.
