Almost thirty-five years after his passing, the colorful and dramatic General of the Army Douglas MacArthur still produces controversy and strong opinions. A man whose father was a hero in the Union Army and later rose to three-star rank, Douglas was destined for the Army and a person of great talents and great flaws. Perret's biography gives us a look at the man behind the myth and an appreciation for what he accomplished. Riggenbach's reading is in somewhat stark contrast to the general. Whereas the general was a man of great emotions, this reading is a cool and disciplined performance. The voice is warm and consistent over the vast length of the recording.
