A PRIVATE INQUIRY

The lives of two self-made but vulnerable British women converge when a third woman, the mysterious Clarissa Trelawny, is found murdered. Barbara Pomeroy, a planning inspector with a young son and troubled marriage, is a suspect. Fidelis Berlin, a well-known clinical psychiatrist, knew the victim previously and is deceived by the real murderer. This well-plotted tale requires a strong reading, and Anita Wright doesn't disappoint. She gives every word its due without sounding strident or stilted, and navigates freely among a variety of voices and accents.
