In a rich Scottish brogue, reader Maxwell relates a medieval mystery after the death of Richard the Lionhearted. Gillian, now a young, beautiful woman, was a child when she saw her father murdered and a jewel-filled box spirited away. Gillian travels to Scotland to find her sister and the box, along with true love. Maxwell depicts battle scenes and childish terror with compelling reality and intensity. She skillfully shifts voices and accents, in particular depicting King John with pomp and authority. This is both well articulated and easy to understand.
