The authors use storytelling to illustrate an African philosophy of interacting with people that is similar to the Golden Rule, but with a stronger emphasis on community and teamwork, not just individual well-being and success. Dominic Hoffman narrates as if he is discovering the philosophy as the story unfolds. The story is rather simplistic although it does demonstrate a possible workplace application. Hoffman adopts the tone of a motivational speaker. His voice is easy to listen to and sets a smooth, even pace. His gives Simon, the primary teacher and practitioner of the philosophy in the book, a quiet African accent that sets him apart from the other characters.
